About Anna Delvey
Anna Sorokin, commonly known as Anna Delvey, was born in 1991 in a Moscow suburb. Later, in 2017, Sorokin moved to Germany with her family. Then, she moved to Paris where she began using the name Anna Delvey, a pseudonym she maintained when she moved to New York City in 2014. While in New York, Sorokin pretended to be a wealthy socialite, skipping hotel bills, hanging out with the city’s elite and scamming her way through New York City’s high society scene.
Anna Delvey was arrested on October 3, 2017 by the Los Angeles Police Department, in an operation planned by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. In that operation, Rachel DeLoache Williams was involved, she said that she was cheated out of more than $60,000 by Anna Delvey during a trip to Marrakesh. Anna Delvey was transferred to Rikers Island. And, three weeks later, she was charged for stealing about $275,000 through several scams.
In June 2018, Anna Delvey and her lawyer tried to make a plea deal. The judge Diane Kiesel said that Anna Delvey showed no remorse so the judge rejected it. In April, 2019, Anna Delvey was convicted of several charges against her, including first-degree attempted grand larceny, second-degree grand larceny, and theft of services. Later, on May 9, 2019, she was punished to 4- 12 years in prison and fined $24,000. Aside from that, she also asked to pay restitution to her victims.
On February 11, 2021 after serving almost four years, Anna Delvey was released from prison on good behavior. In March 2021, she was rearrested into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for overstaying her visa. However, Delvey remained in Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody in upstate New York for a year, waiting on a Board of Immigration Appeals to create a decision on her case.
