Gang stalking is a term used to portray intimidation and harassment performed by a group of individuals against another person or toward a smaller group of people. Sometimes, this term is also referred to as “organized stalking.” Most people start to perform this phenomenon because they cannot tolerate another person for several reasons such as difference of belief, idea, or lifestyles, and jealousy. Generally, the stalkers use this tactic to coerce silence, exact revenge, or cast out a person that has opposing ideas. In some states, gang stalking is considered a misdemeanor. But in other states, gang stalking may be subject to criminal penalties.
Also, we can say that gang stalking as a form of terrorism utilized against a person or smaller group of people in a wicked attempt to reduce the quality of their life until they have a nervous breakdown, become imprisoned, or experience mental, physical, emotional pain continuously until they want to suicide.
In gang stalking, the number of people may vary. The gang may receive individuals from a handful of people in a work or living environment. The stalkers are well-organized groups of people. They not only communicate with one another in a particular location, but also, they pursue the target in other areas through extensive contacts. The leaders of gang stalking usually ask for help to other individuals in the gang by various methods including giving false information about the victim, manipulating potential members, or employing individuals with similar criminal backgrounds.
There are many tactics used in gang stalking such as following the victim, breaking into their own house, stealing or damaging their property, and spreading rumors or lies about the victim. Even, the stalkers also do physical violence to the victim. Need to note that the goal of gang stalking is to isolate, intimidate, and terrorize the victim, even with the ultimate goal to make the victim become mentally unstable or commit suicide.
Based on the research, the victims of the gang stalking can be from any gender or socioeconomic background. Usually, these individuals may have more achievement, talent, or power than other people in an environment. Gang stalking uses tactics meant to destroy the qualities of the victim.
There are some individuals who report being victimized by people of the gang stalking for political or social reasons. Also, there are some individuals who report being targeted by gang stalking for other reasons including being considered as a threat to the group or organization doing the stalkers. In other sources, we find information that gang stalking is often associated with delusional thinking or paranoia. And, mental health professionals or law enforcement agencies do not recognize gang stalking as a legitimate phenomenon.
How Often Does It Happen?
Gang stalking is not a recognized phenomenon, so it is difficult to estimate how often gang stalking happens. There is no official data related to gang stalking. Several experts believe that gang stalking is a rare incident, while some other experts said that it might be more prevalent which is commonly recognized due to underreporting and lack of awareness. Need to note that some individuals who report being targeted by gang stalking may be experiencing symptoms of mental illness or paranoia so they need to seek appropriate treatment and support.
Although gang stalking may be rare, but the effects on individuals who believe they are being targeted by gang stalking can be devastating to their mind. Usually, the victims of gang stalking will experience anxiety, depression, paranoia, and other mental health problems as a result of the constant intimidation and harassment. Of course, this will impact on their ability to function in their daily lives, and can lead to social isolation.
