No one wants to live in jail. You may also agree with it. However, you may be wondering what will happen when you enter jail for the first time. So, what happens when you go to jail for the first time? If you are curious about this, keep reading.
A thing that happens when someone goes to jail for the first time may be different, depending on a few things such as the facility, the people, and so on. Everyone has their own experience and it may be different from others. Their experience can be nice, bad, or just so-so.
There are a lot of people who have spent time in jail who share their stories with the community. One of the communities where they share such a thing is Quora. On Quora, there is a thread called “What happens during someone’s first day in jail?”
There are several answers found on the thread. One of the most interesting ones is from Jennifer Stone from Florida. According to her, you will be brought in wearing handcuffs and will be asked to stand at a counter. Meanwhile, your arresting officer will give the jail staff their paperwork. Then, you will be patted down by a same-sex officer. It is stated that the handcuffs will come off. If you are wearing shoes, you will be asked to remove them. Aside from the shoes, you will also be asked to remove any jewelry you have on and clips or ties in your hair. If there are things in your pockets, you will be asked to pull all of them out. Once the patch down is done, you will be taken for fingerprinting. While a computer system is now used in most jails, there are some others that still use ink. The next thing is taking mugshots. After that, you will be asked to sit down in a chair and wait for your name to be called. After a few moments, you will be called and another staff member will take your demographic information and input everything to the computer. Then, you will be taken to see a nurse who will be the one in charge of checking your health and vitals. Apparently, the nurse will ask you whether you are currently pregnant, have allergies, or known medical conditions. After having a medical check-up, you will be allowed to make a phone call. Feel free to call someone such as your family member or a friend. After a phone call, you will have to wait again until you are called. In the next session, you will be asked for clothing and shoe sizes and will have to go to another room for a strip search. Then, you will be told to shower and dress in your uniform. Lastly, you will be taken to your housing unit.
