Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Commissary on JPay
TDCJ uses JPay for adding funds to the inmate’s commissary account. There are a number of JPay services that TDCJ utilizes, including sending money, email, outbound email and phone prepaid/ debit.
One of the services that allows an inmate’s family and friends to add funds is Sending Money. Through JPay sending money, family or friends can send funds to their loved one incarcerated in TDCJ. JPay ensures that the money transfer process is as seamless as possible, both for family or inmates.
Of course, all money sent to an inmate will be put on the inmate’s commissary account. The money on an inmate’s commissary account can be used to pay for items that are purchased from the commissary store.
It is known that each correctional facility has a store specifically for inmates to purchase various items from the commissary such as food, toiletries, radios, phone cards and even television. Of course, inmates can only buy items from the commissary on specific days depending on the facility.
JPay also provides certified checks and money orders that can sometimes take weeks to be put on the inmate’s commissary account due to postal and processing delays. Through JPay, the money is commonly credited to the inmate’s account by the following morning.
