It is common for a company to conduct a background check to their prospective employees. It is done to know who their prospective employees are, whether or not they can be good employees there, etc. As we know, a company surely needs employees who are responsible, reliable, and trusted.
Are there any jobs that don’t require background checks? This kind of information is usually needed by ex-inmates. They may not be confident because they became an inmate in the past and when they apply for a job, companies may check it and even a lot of companies that do not want to accept ex-inmates and some companies only want to accept them after 5 years or 10 years from the sentence. But, don’t worry. You have to keep fighting for your future because there are a number of jobs that do not require background checks.
The Reasons of Background Checks
Companies usually conduct background checks to know about several things from their prospective employees such as their characters, their past mistakes, their health, etc. By knowing this information, the companies can make sure that they hire the right employees for the positions. There are companies that do not want to accept ex-felons because they think that the ex-felons have the possibility to commit a crime on the job so that they can disserve the companies. These companies do not want to take the risk of hiring ex-felons. Another reason is because the companies are afraid that by hiring ex-felons, it can damage their reputation and it may lose their customers.
So, a background check is actually important because if it is not done, it may create an unsafe working condition.
The Reasons Why Some Companies Do Not Want to Conduct Background Checks
Companies do not always conduct background checks to their prospective employees. Some of them do not do that for some reasons such as the cost, wanting to help ex-inmates, and no time for doing it.

Background checking can be expensive. A lot of companies hire an outside firm for doing this. So, some companies prefer not to do that to save their finances.
- They Want to Help Ex-Inmates
Some companies want to help ex-inmates so that they do not care if their employees were inmates in the past. They believe that their employees who were inmates deserve to be given a second chance and they can live better.
- They Have No Time
There are recruitment managers who are very busy so that they do not have time for doing background checks. At the same time, they need new employees quickly. So, they ignore background checks.
Jobs That Do Not Require Background Checks
1. Restaurant Employees
There are some restaurants that do not require background checks when they hire employees for some positions such as dishwashers, servers, and cooks. A high turnover rate in the restaurant industry may be one of the reasons why some restaurants do not conduct a background check. By ignoring background checks, they are still able to keep the restaurant running. Working in a restaurant will require you to do things fast. Working in this industry can be hard and the employees may need to be able to lift heavy things.
2. Trucking Employees
There are some trucking companies that may not need a background check to their prospective employees. Truck drivers are usually positions needed to be filled in a trucking company. However, these companies usually require you to have a CDL. Let’s say that you have gotten your CDL before you entered the prison and now it is still valid. You can try to apply for a job in a trucking company as a truck driver. If you do not have a CDL, you can get it, but you need to find out whether you can get a CDL after your release. If you have had a CDL, and then you apply for a job as a truck driver in a trucking company which really needs drivers immediately, you may have a chance for getting the position.
3. Telephone Customer Service
There are some companies that hire employees without conducting a background check for a telephone customer service position. Same as restaurant employees, telephone customer service agents also have high turnover rates. So, no wonder why some companies ignore background checks. These companies also feel that it is okay to hire ex-felons because they only need to handle the customers via phone.
4. Delivery Service Employees
Some shipping companies hire employees for some positions without background checks. Some positions like driver helper, warehouse jobs, and even drivers may not need background checks in some companies.
5. Construction Workers
It is understandable if there are construction companies that do not require background checks to their prospective workers. It is because this kind of companies have a constant flow of work because of the construction contracts which are ongoing and it demands the positions to always be filled. Usually, to work in construction, you need to have physical strength. They will also work in a team to build structures.
6. Farm Worker
Working in a farm also usually does not require a background check. The things that you will do in a farm is to plant, weed, harvest, irrigate, and maintain crops. If you work on an animal farm, then you need to feed, water, groom, weigh, and herd animals. Same as construction, working in a farm also requires you to have physical strength and you will work outdoors and it is a tiring job.
7. Landscaping Job
The things to do as a landscaping worker is to maintain outdoor areas such as gardens, parks, and lawns. The tasks include sweeping, mowing, planting, and installing benches or even fountains. This job usually does not require you to have experiences because you probably will get training for doing the tasks.
8. House Cleaning Job
If you work as a house cleaner, you will have to maintain the cleanliness of your client’s house. The things that you will do include washing clothes, mopping, sweeping, doing the dishes, vacuuming, and organizing. As you know that the jobs require you to have skills that a lot of people already have, but it is important for you to note that even though it seems easy, this job requires detail. But, don’t worry because usually the cleaning companies will train you on the job. This job is usually hired in a house, hotel or commercial setting.
9. Barber
Becoming a barber may not need a background check so that if you are an ex-inmate, you can try to apply for this job. The things that you will do as a barber are haircutting, hairstyling, hair coloring, and beard maintenance. As a barber, you will meet many people with different characters so communication and customer service skills are needed. Even though it seems easy to be a barber, it may take years to master. If you want to work as a barber, don’t stop learning to be a good barber until you become a master.
10. Pet Care Employee
If you like animals, you can apply for a job as an employee in a pet care. When you work in a pet care, you need to be able to handle animals and also you need to maintain good relationships with clients. Since customers usually consider their pets like their children, you have to treat their pets carefully and well.
11. Freelance Writers
A freelance writer is usually needed by companies or individuals where they need writings for blog posts, marketing emails or educational articles. Since it is a freelance job, usually this job is flexible so you can get as many jobs as you want to get more dollars and also you can do your job anywhere and anytime as long as you can collect your tasks before the deadline.
12. Entrepreneur
There is no better thing than being a boss for yourself. So, being an entrepreneur can be your option. If you have a good idea for having a business, then you start doing it now. But note that a good idea is not enough. You also need to have some business knowledge and a strong work ethic so that you can be a successful entrepreneur. There are a lot of entrepreneurs who make startup companies and it can be your inspiration. Alternatively, you can develop a small business.
13. Graphic Designers
You are able to work as a graphic designer or graphic artist full time or freelance. Usually, to be a graphic designer does not require you to do background checks from the company. If you have skills in this field, you can try applying for a job for this position.
14. Transcriptionist
As a transcriptionist, you will be able to convert voice recordings into written documents. Usually, this work does not require you to do a background check. If you want to apply for this job, make sure that you are good at typing and good at listening. However, there may be sensitive information in the tasks so that some companies may conduct a background check for this position.
15. Data Entry Clerk
You are able to be a data entry clerk and the things that you need include a computer, a good network connection, and attention to detail. However, if the data is sensitive, a background check may be conducted by the companies. But, there are also companies that deal with data which are not sensitive so that a background check may not need to be done.
16. Web Developer
Now, developing websites has become something popular. It grows again and again because there are more companies which want to build online brands. Usually, becoming a web developer does not need background checks because they work as contractors, not employees, and they do this at home. However, if you become a web developer for an in-house work, background check may be needed.
