When you submit an e-form for making a passport on the Passport Seva website, you are required to upload the XML file. If you are new in using the website and also in submitting it, you may not have a clue about uploading the XML file and even you do not know where you can get the XML file. If so, reading the guide below will help you.

Uploading an XML File to Passport Seva

The XML file itself will be generated after you download the e-form, fill it and click on the Validate and Save button. To upload the XML file, you can do that through the Upload e-Form link. To make sure that the system will generate the proper XML file, it is recommended for you to use Adobe Reader version 9 or above. If not, the system may not generate the proper XML file.

In the steps below, you are able to follow the method to submit e-form to Passport Seva completely.

  • For e-form submission, the first thing that you need to do is to download the e-form through the Download e-Form link which can be found on the home page of the Passport Seva website.
  • After downloading the form, then you are required to fill it and click the Validate and Save button in it. By clicking on it, an XML file will be generated.
  • In this step, you have to register through the Passport Seva Online Portal. It is done by clicking on the Register Now link that you can find on the Home Page.
  • Now, you need to login to the Passport Seva Online Portal by using the registered Login ID.
  • Here, it’s time to upload the XML file that has been generated in step 2 above. You have to upload the file through the Upload e-Form link. You need to make sure that you do not upload the PDF form here because the system only accepts the XML file.
  • On the View Saved/ Submitted Applications screen, you need to click the Pay and Schedule Appointment link to schedule an appointment. There are some online payment methods including credit/ debit card (MasterCard and Visa), SBI Bank Challan, and Internet Banking (State Bank of India (SBI) Associate Banks and Other Banks) and you can choose what you prefer.
  • At this stage, the thing that you need to do is to print the application receipt that contains Application Reference Number (ARN)/ Appointment Number. Printing it can be done by clicking the Print Application Receipt link.
  • After you do all of the steps above, then you can visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/ Regional Passport Office (RPO). The appointment has been booked, together with original documents.

It is important for you to note that you are not required to carry a printout of Application Receipt anymore because an SMS containing your appointment details is accepted as proof of appointment when you visit the Passport Office.
