Since inmates do not have access to the internet, they may receive your email within 24 to 48 hours, according to a schedule set by the facility. However, many inmate’s families or friends do not yet know the rules of sending email with JPay, including the way to send an email to an inmate.

Sending an Email to an Inmate with JPay, Here’s How!

It’s pretty straightforward to send an email to an inmate with JPay. What you should do is to create your JPay account first. To send an email to an inmate, you should have the inmate’s ID and also purchase a virtual JPay stamp.

It is known that every email you send through JPay will require a stamp. Well, the longer your email, the more stamps you have to send it. If you want to attach a VideoGrams, it also requires additional stamps.

One virtual JPay stamp will allow you to type up to 6000 characters, which is equivalent to about 6 pages of handwriting. The price of JPay stamps will vary according to the facility. After you create a JPay account and purchase JPay stamps, you can then send an email to an inmate by doing the following steps:

  • First, log into your JPay account.
  • Once you’re at the JPay homepage, you need to click on the ‘Email’ menu located on the ‘Navigation’ menu.

  • On the Compose page, you need to enter the content for your email.
  • Then, you can attach one of the following
    1) You need to click on the ‘Attach Image’ to attach an inmate.
    2) You need to click on the ‘Attach Video’ to attach a video.
    3) You need to click on the ‘Record Video’ to record and attach a VideoGram.
  • After that, you can click ‘Send’ to send your email. However, if you do not see the ‘Send’ button, it means that you’ve not purchased enough stamps for the email you want to send.
  • Last, you can preview your email before sending it by clicking on the ‘Preview’ button. The email preview will show your email as a pdf.

But there are some things you should remember, including:

  • Not all JPay services will be available for all correctional facilities. If you want to know what services that a facility allows, you can visit the ‘Availability and Pricing’ page and look for the facility you want.
  • Ensure you’ve chosen the correct inmate/ offender for the service you want. On the JPay homepage, in the Inmate/ Offender list, you need to choose the inmate/ offender you would like to send an email to.
  • Ensure you are logged into using the JPay services.

How If You Can’t See the Emails Tab on Your Account?

If you do not view the Email tab after you have logged into your JPay.com account, it’s commonly due to one of the following reasons:

  • The facility where an inmate is housed does not offer email.
  • You’ve chosen the right inmate from the drop-down list on your Homepage.
  • The inmate has been transferred.
  • You’ve chosen the wrong inmate when setting up your JPay.com account.
  • The inmate has been prohibited from sending or receiving Emails by the facility staff.
