If you have a loved one incarcerated in one of the correctional facilities in Singapore and he will be free soon, you may need to know his release date. Unfortunately, the Singapore Prison Service (SPS) does not publicly provide the information, so you cannot get it from its official website.
However, inmates will know when they will be released from prison. So, you can try to ask your loved one during visitations. If a prison visit is not possible due to some rules and restrictions, you can find another way to get the information. Okay, let’s dive into our post to see the guide!
Checking Inmate Release Date in Singapore: Here’s How!
In addition to asking your loved one during a prison visit when he will be released from prison, you can also get information about an inmate’s release date by using the following methods:
Method 1: Sending e-letters to SPS
To send them a message, you may need to log into the SPS Public e-letter portal, and of course, you must have a SPS account first. To create a SPS account, you can visit this link: https://www.eservice.sps.gov.sg/eletters/#/register.
On the registration page, you need to enter your personal information, such as your name, address, identification card, email address, and password, and choose your security question and answer. Make sure to accept the terms and conditions and follow the on-screen instructions until your registration is complete. Now, you can send e-letters to SPS.
To send e-letters to SPS, you can go to the SPS Public e-Letters Portal here. https://www.eservice.sps.gov.sg/eletters/#/login Once there, you need to enter your email address or login ID and the password you created during registration. Then, click “Sign In.”
If you want to send them e-letters faster, you can use your SingPass account. If you choose this, you may only need to scan the barcode available on the SPS website to log in. You can use the SingPass app to scan it or use your credentials to log into SingPass. Now, you can compose your message and tell them that you want to know the inmate release date.
In your message, you may need to provide your personal information and inmate information, such as inmate name, ID number, and prison name. Wait a moment until they respond to your message.
Method 2: Submitting a Form
If you have not yet received any response from SPS, you can try to submit a form. Usually, every form submitted to SPS will be processed within 5 minutes. The following is the information you need to provide on the form:
- Salutation
- Your name is based on your FIN, NRIC, or passport number.
- Your FIN, NRIC, or passport number
- Inmate Name
- Inmate Number
- Inmate NRIC
- Your relationship with the inmate
- Which institution the inmate belongs to
- Your email address
- Your contact number
- Your contact details with a phone number
- Category of feedback: Choose one, e.g., Imprisonment information or others
- Your message: Make sure to tell them that you need information about the inmate release date
- File attachment if necessary
After all of them are completed, you can check the SPS terms and services box. Then, click “Submit Now.”
Method 3: Making a Phone Call
If both methods cannot give you a solution, you can try to make a phone call to SPS representatives at 1 800 774 7667. Even though the phone number of SPS customer support, which is available on the Contact Us page, is for asking general questions and giving feedback, you can try to dial the number to ask for information about the inmate release date.
Well, those are some methods you can use to check an inmate’s release date with the Singapore Prison Service (SPS).
Inmate Pick-Up Rules
The inmate will be directly released from prisons, so you can wait for your loved one to come out of his respective locations. Generally, prisoner releases will be scheduled from 11:00 a.m. onwards, Monday through Saturday, excluding public holidays.
The estimated time of inmate release is not applicable for inmates who are awaiting their release under a bail agreement. Before being released, inmates who are placed on the Halfway House Scheme or on the Employment Preparation Scheme are not allowed to leave the designated place, except for valid reasons.
In addition, inmates with foreign nationality will be released to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority’s Repatriation Unit. They will also be allowed to contact their family and friends in Singapore if they have important information to share before their release.
