What is the Garden State Youth Correctional Facility?

The Garden State Youth Correctional Facility, also known as GSYCF, is a part of the New Jersey Department of Corrections and is designed to incarcerate and rehabilitate young offenders between the ages of 16 and 21. Opened in 1968, this facility has a maximum capacity of 1511 inmates, with a main facility and a dedicated minimum-security unit.

To meet the needs of every inmate, it uses a multi-disciplinary approach that includes case management, anger management, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and other evidence-based programs. The facility encourages the participation of guardians and parents in the treatment as the first support system.

Basically, Garden State Youth Correctional Facility focuses on providing a secure and controlled environment for young offenders to receive education, counseling, and a variety of programs.

Every inmate in the Garden State Youth Correctional Facility is required to participate in vocational training, academic education, mental health services, substance abuse counseling, and life skills development.

Visiting Hours at the Garden State Youth Correctional Facility

The visiting hours at Garden State Youth Correctional Facility are on Saturdays and Sundays and depend on the custody level of the inmate. If space permits, the facility can accommodate a maximum of four adults and five children. The offenders are allowed one visit per week.

Medium Custody and Above Inmates

On Saturdays and Sundays, starting from 9:30 a.m.–11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.–3:15 p.m.

Registration:

  • For the morning session, it starts from 8:15 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • For the afternoon session, it starts from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Minimum Security Unit (Full Minimum)

  • Saturdays and Sundays from 7pm-8:30pm
  • Registration starts from 5:45pm-6:45pm.
