The Diversity Immigrant Visa (DV) program is a program managed by the U.S. Department of State (DOS). The program has a purpose to improve the diversity of immigrants who arrive in the United States. Per year, DV program provides up to 50,000 immigrant visas through a lottery pool for foreign nationals from countries with low immigration rates to immigrate to the United States.

Eligibility for DV Lottery 2023
Through a random computer-based selection process, DV lottery 2023 will provide 55,000 green cards available for foreign nationals or natives of certain countries with low immigration rates to immigrate to the United States. Thus, foreign nationals or natives of certain countries with historically high rates of immigration to the United States are not allowed to register. These include Brazil, Canada, Bangladesh, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Honduras, India, El Salvador, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, Philippines, South Korea, Nigeria, Pakistan, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, Venezuela, and Vietnam.
For foreign nationals who are not eligible to register because their country of birth is in the excluded list above, they can still participate through a qualifying spouse who was born in a country which is eligible to participate. Or, such foreign nationals can also participate in the Diversity Immigrant Visa (DV) program through their parent’s birth countries as long as their parent’s birth countries are eligible to participate.
Also, the applicants who participate in the DV lottery must meet educational or work requirements. They must have completed a 12-year course of formal elementary and secondary school to meet the educational requirement. The applicants must have at least two years of work experience within that last 5 years to meet the work requirement. And, their work experiences must be from a profession that needs at least two years of training. Usually, the government will use the Department of Labor’s Online database to determine qualifying experience. Thus, if you want to participate in the Diversity Immigrant Visa (DV) program, make sure you meet all requirements.
