Jimmy Savile was a British television and radio presenter known for his work including “Top of the Pops” and “Jim’ll Fix It.” Also, Jimmy Savile was a famous figure in the entertainment industry and was frequently associated with charity work. But surprisingly, after his death in October 2011, an ITV documentary revealed that during his lifetime he had sexually abused hundreds of children and women without being brought to justice.

Did Jimmy Savile Go to Jail?

No, Jimmy Savile did not go to jail during his lifetime. Nevertheless, there were at least two police investigations conducted before his death. As reported by iNews, the first investigation happened in 1958. And, the last investigation occurred in 2009, exactly two years before he died. For your information, Jimmy Savile died on 29th October 2011. Based on the research, in his 2009 investigation, Jimmy Savile was interviewed by Surrey Police in relation to an indecent assault at a school. Unfortunately, at the time, there was not enough evidence to make an arrest against Jimmy Savile. Thus, he was not prosecuted for either case.

Shortly after that, due to a lot of claims against Jimmy Savile following his death, BBC Meirion Jones started an investigation. But editor Peter Rippon asked him to stop a few weeks before the BBC’s tribute to Jimmy Savile aired.

On 3rd October 2012, a Broadcasting television network, ITV aired Exposure: The Other Side of Jimmy Savile. The film was presented by investigative reporter Mark Williams-Thomas and outlined Savile’s crimes. On the film, it was reported that there were lots of women who said that when teenagers, they had been sexually abused by Jimmy Savile. Of course, lots of people watch this documentary film. People were surprised with the fact of the criminal act of Jimmy Savile.

Later, still in the month and the same year, the Metropolitan Police launched an investigation. In only several months, exactly in January 2013, about 450 people had given their testimonies. They were informed about harassment that was done by Jimmy Savile during his lifetime. Based on the research, almost three-quarters of them were under the age of 18, thirty-four rapes were reported in 28 police departments. In March 2013, iNews reported that 214 of those testimonies would have been considered a criminal offence if they had been brought to court while Jimmy Savile was still alive.

Savile’s Abuse During His Lifetime

Now, it is reported that Jimmy Savile had abused approximately 500 people, especially children and women. The first incidence of his abuse happened in Manchester in 1955, when Jimmy Savile was a manager of a dance hall. The investigations were conducted into Savile’s conduct in some hospitals such as Leeds General Infirmary and Stoke Mandeville hospital. The result of the investigation stated that Jimmy Savile sexually abused more than 60 staff and patients aged between 5 and 75 years old.

According to records, Savile’s sexual abuse at Leeds General Infirmary and Stoke Mandeville hospital, where he was a volunteer porter, and at the BBC started in 1965. Aside from that, there also have been reports that Jimmy Savile had ever sex with corpses at the Leeds General Infirmary mortuary. Lots of his victims reported the incidents, but unfortunately at the time they did not get justice.
