About Linnon Latham
Linnon Latham, who was more known as LJ, was a teenager of 18 years old. He came from Lamar, Florida, the United States. He was known for his selflessness. That’s why many considered him as a leader. He was the type of person that would give someone his last dime if he could. Besides, he was a sweet soul. Actually, it is not surprising knowing he was close to both of his parents who loved him and really took the time to raise him the right way. Aside from his parents, he also had a lovely sister and a baby brother who loved him so much. His baby brother, Asher, especially, adored him to the point the first words that came from his mouth were actually LJ. His mother, Charmaine, also said that the baby boy shares the same hobby and interest as his big brother.
In addition to these, LJ was described as an ambitious one with so many dreams. He dreamed of becoming a pilot once he graduated from high school. Becoming a pilot and just being in the sky was something he dreamed about every single day. To be able to become one, he was aware that he had to work really hard. Before the incident, he studied at Lamar High School and was in a senior level. He was supposed to graduate in June 2023 with a 3.9 GPA. It was reported that the boy was accepted to attend a private university that focuses on aviation and aerospace programs called Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach.
Before fulfilling his dream to become a pilot, LJ had actually started a car wash business. He provided the service to wash rental cars within the community.
For his parents, LJ was the perfect son. His mother, Charmaine, a well-known entrepreneur and a businesswoman, would often say how proud she was of his son. She believed that his son would be bigger as even when he was 18 years old, he had achieved many things.
The Accident
The tragedy happened on April 11, 2023. That day, Linnon Latham or LJ told his mother that he was going out with his best friend who lived in the same complex as them, Jalen Jameson. It was not the first time he went out with his friends. He often did it but he always knew the limit. Just like usual, that day, he knew that he had to come home by midnight, which was his curfew. Every time he went out, he always communicated with his mother.
Unlike usual, on April 11, 2023 at 11:30 PM, LJ was still not on his way home. That’s why his mother texted him and called him. However, there was no response. She then decided to call his best friend who was known to be with him, Jalen Jameson to ask about his son. Jalen said LJ was in the bathroom and his phone was left in the car.
After waiting for a while, Charmaine still had not received a text or a phone call from his son, LJ. As it was getting late and felt that it was a bit strange as it was unusual, she checked his location to see where he was. Apparently, LJ always turned his location on so it would be easier for his family to track him. According to his location pin, LJ had passed his home. At the time, the mother knew that something was wrong. She wasted no time and got into her car right away and went straight to the place where her son and his friend went to, Vizcaya Park. Unfortunately, she could not find him when she got there and started to panic and called 911 to file a missing person report. Upon getting a report from his family, Miramar Police Department posted something related to the case on their official Twitter account, as follows:
“Missing: Linnon Latham, 18, was last seen on 4/11/2023 at approx. 11:30 p.m., near Vizcaya Park, located on the 14200 block of SW 55 Street. He was wearing a white t-shirt, red Adidas jogger & Gucci slides. Anyone with info. on this whereabouts is urged to call police immediately.”
The family of LJ was desperate to find him. They, along with several local government officials and law enforcement agencies such as the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Miami-Dade Police Department, Pembroke Pines Police Department, and South Florida Water Management District, looked for him. Besides, some celebrities also showed support to his mother.
After three days of his missing, his body was later found on Thursday in a lake at Vizcaya Park and then was sent to the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of his death.
According to authorities, it was an accident. They assumed that LJ was drowned. On April 14, 2023, the Miramar Police Department released full statement regarding his passing on their social media account, as follows:
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the search for Linnon “LJ” Latham has come to a close. His body was located in a lake Thursday evening in the Vizcaya community. Although at present time no foul play is suspected, LJ’s cause of death will be determined by the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office. We thank @PPinesPD, @browardsheriff, @MiamiDadePD, and the @SFWMD for their assistance in helping us locate LJ. We ask that you keep his family in your prayers.”
However, LJ’s family disagreed with what the authorities said. They said it was too strange and too weird to be considered an accident, especially from the way his so-called friend who was out with him, Jalen Jameson, behaved. His mother said Jalen was lying to him when he said LJ was in the bathroom. The woman also added that his story about LJ that got out of the case and disappeared was a made up story. If he was right, then why didn’t he call her instead of going back home and asking his parents to search LJ with him?
Charmaine was really disappointed with Jalen and his parents. They were transparent and seemed fishy. In a video, she said that not everyone can be a friend. She said that friends will be there when we are convenient only and not when we are close to success.
