The following year, Bill Keller who had been executive editor at The New York Times was reported to work for the Marshall Project.

In August and October 2014, they published their first two investigations on their official website, in The Washington Post, and in Slate.

In November 2014, the Marshall Project officially launched. Bill Keller, the man who used to be New York Times executor editor, was its first editor-in-chief. As he retired five years later, his position was filled by Susan Chira.
