ADX is located in Fremont County of Colorado and it is part of the Florence Federal Correctional Complex. Is It Permitted to Visit Inmates in ADX Florence?
This prison has the highest-level security because it holds the most dangerous criminals in the United States, but it does not mean that this prison does not permit the inmates to meet their family members and friends. Family members and friends of inmates can visit inmates in certain times and ADX Florence has certain times to let family and friends visit inmates.
When Can Family and Friends Visit Inmates in ADX Florence?
An inmate in ADX is allowed to be visited 5 times a month. In a visit, the maximum duration is 7 hours and they can be visited by a maximum of 3 visitors including children. The visit will be done in the Visiting Room.
The schedule of visiting inmates in ADX is on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8 am to 3 pm. If there are visitors who come after 2 pm, they will not be processed into the Visiting Room. If family or friends visit inmates on holiday, it will be counted as part of the five monthly visits.
When visitors visit an inmate at any portion, it is charged as one visit. If visitors have requests for special visits, it will be submitted in writing to the United Manager for review and the approval will be given by the Associate Warden or the Warden.
If the visiting areas are overcrowded, the officer will determine who will be allowed to visit by considering some factors such as frequency of visits, the distance a visitor has gone through, relationship of visitors to inmates and frequency of visits received by the inmate.
It is prohibited for visitors to leave the facility and come back to visit again later in the day. When visitors visit inmates, physical contact is limited where they only can hold the inmate’s hands occasionally and embrace them at the beginning and end of each visit. Visitors will also be required to sign an acknowledgement of the instructions for visiting the institution and declaring that they do not have any items that can threaten the security.
What Should I Wear When Visiting an Inmate in ADX?
Same as visiting other prisons, visiting ADX also requires visitors to wear appropriate clothes. Visitors are not allowed to wear mini-skirts, shorts, sheer or tight-fitting clothes, clothes which are too short or have low cut, backless clothes, halter tops, or sleeveless clothes. It is also prohibited for visitors to wear blouses, dresses, or other clothes which are suggestive or reveal nature.
What will happen if I wear something that is not proper? If so, the Front Lobby or Visiting Room Officer will contact the Operations Lieutenant and Institution Duty Officer to determine whether they will deny the visit or terminate the visit.
